Water Smart Information

Water Smart is a public awareness campaign for water conservation sponsored by the Texas Commission on Environmetal Quality and the Texas Water Development Board. Its message is simple: every citizen, no matter what age or where they live, has a personal responsibility to use water wisely.

HCMUD 1 is a Water Smart partner helping to raise awareness of the program within its boundaries with signs, handouts and community invovlement.

DID YOU KNOW… it all comes out in the Wash

Did you know that approximately 25% of a household’s residential water consumption is happening in your laundry room and it’s disappearing at the same rate as your missing socks. Washing laundry is very water intensive, especially if you own a conventional top loading washing machine. Top loaders can use between 39 and 43 gallons of water per load for the wash and rinse cycle combined! Using both water-saving practices as well as a high efficiency washing machine can reduce water use by half!

Extra Trash Cans?
